What Now?

This is a screen shot of some of my recent online classes. Like all touring and teaching artists, I have grappled with what to do with my time now that all concerts and events and camps are shut down. So, in addition to working on some recording projects and original music, I have chosen to develop online courses, turning what I would normally teach in real life into weekly Zoom sessions. It feels good to be connecting with people, albeit virtually, and to be sharing the beautiful traditions of music and dance from my community with students from Alaska to Maine! I've been happily surprised by how many different locales my students have come from after a bit of Instagram advertising, and now I am working with a videographer to take it one step further to make online teaching videos. Classes so far include Folk Songs of the Kentucky Mountains, Beginning Flatfooting and Clogging, and Intermediate Flatfooting with Musicians.  With the stay-at-home orders and everything that's going on in the world, it's all about finding the silver linings!
